In June 2022, the Consortium ABC02 started with the conversion of a former winehouse Cinoco into a dutch-speaking school.
EVB is a project of the non-profit organization “ Ignitian Schools on the move” which is building a brand new school in the ancient brewery Vandenheuvel which is situated at the station of Sint Jans Molenbeek.
The new school will offer a unique combination of GST, TSE and SSE study directions within 2 levels, the scientific level “STEM” and the level of “Society and Well-being”.
860 students will follow these technical, professional and flow courses in order to find a job more easily.
It is the first time that this Jesuit community constructs a dutch-speaking school for both technical and professional education.
They were inspired by Egied Van Broekhoven, a Jesuit and priest who was active in Kuregem during the sxties.
With this new school, efforts are made to provide dutch language education in Brussels in order to fulfill the needs of secondary education at the capital.
Even after school hours, the school remains a meetingplace for young people from the neighbourhood.
In that way, EVB ensures the connection and opportunity for different cultures and religions. It wants to invest in a sort of community.
The school does not function as an island. It doesn’t want to be shut off from the immediate environment because it is the social fabric of the city.
